Eligibility

**IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SUMMER 2024 CANDIDATES

Undergraduate students who will complete their requirements to graduate in the Summer 2024 term and would like the opportunity to walk early and attend the Spring Commencement Ceremony are eligible to put their name on the Spring Commencement Waitlist.  The Spring Commencement Waitlist link will go live below on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 10 a.m., and will close on Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m.

The Waitlist is on a first come, first serve basis, and all requests to attend the Spring Ceremony must be placed through the link below. Emails and phone calls to the Office of Special Events will not be accepted. Students will be able to check their position on the waitlist by emailing commencement@pitt.edu after March 8. Placing your name on the waitlist does not guarantee the student the ability to attend.

Summer 2024 term students will be notified via their Pitt email the week of April 15 by the Office of Special Events regarding their waitlist request:

• For those we can accommodate, an email will be sent confirming their participation along with instructions on how to obtain their tickets and name announcement cards.
   
• For all others, an email will be sent stating we were unable to accommodate their request and these students will be invited to the Winter Ceremony.

Waitlist will close on April 10 at 6 p.m.  THE WAITLIST IS NOW CLOSED.
Students will be notified via their Pitt email the week of April 15 by the Office of Special Events regarding their waitlist request.

The Spring Commencement will be held on April 28, 2024 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center for those students who have earned or are earning a Bachelor’s degree between January 2024 - April 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no longer one university-wide commencement ceremony, but two identical university-wide commencement ceremonies. One is held every winter (for undergraduate and graduate students who will graduate at any time between May – December) and one every spring (for undergraduate students who will graduate anytime between January – April).

GRADUATION

• Graduation is the completion of all degree requirements as recorded on the official transcript. To officially graduate, students must satisfy all degree program requirements.  All students must register to graduate by submitting an official online graduation application through my.pitt.edu. More information about this separate process can be found here. 
   
• The University Registrar or the student records department of each school or college can assist with any eligibility or diploma questions.
   
• Applying for graduation is required regardless of your plans to attend Commencement.

COMMENCEMENT

• Commencement: Is the ceremony celebrating graduating students! Students must satisfy all degree program requirements prior to the date of the scheduled commencement ceremony. Students will be invited to attend the first ceremony that occurs after they satisfy all degree program requirements.
   
• The Office of Special Events coordinates the university-wide ceremony only. Questions regarding school, college or department ceremonies/celebrations should be directed to the respective school or college.
