School & College Ceremonies

The ceremonies below are hosted at the school and college level.

The Class of 2022 undergraduate candidates are welcome to attend both their school or college event in addition to the University-wide ceremony on Sunday, May 1. Some schools, colleges or departments may only be hosting an event for certain audiences.  Be sure to read each event description as many are designated specifically for undergraduate candidates, graduate-level candidates, or both.

College of Business Administration

The College of Business Administration is will host a Graduation Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, April 30, at PPG Paints Arena beginning at 6:30 p.m. More information about the ceremony can be found here.

College of General Studies

The College of General Studies will host a Meet and Greet for Students graduating with a CGS Major or Standalone Certificate in April 2022 on Sunday, May 1, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on the Posvar Patio. Each student may bring up to 2 guests. No tickets or regalia is required. Email invitations are being sent. The Posvar Patio is outside, so please dress accordingly. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences 

There will be a school-wide graduation ceremony for graduate students (those attaining a Master's, Professional Dotoral and Doctoral degrees) on Thursday, April 28 at 11:00 AM at the Fitzgerald Field House. We will share additional information about the ceremony as soon as it is available.  Individual departments and programs may also be having ceremonies.  More information can be found here.

Graduate School of Public Health

The Graduate School of Public Health will host a ceremony on Sunday, May 1 at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland at 5pm. Graduates from 2020-21 and their families are also invited. A link to watch the ceremony virtually will be available for guests that aren't able to travel to Pittsburgh. For questions, email mikedolinger@pitt.edu.

Graduate School of Public and International Affairs

The Graduate School of Public International Affairs will host a graduation ceremony on Thursday, April 28, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum.  Time is TBA. Questions should be directed to rkidney@pitt.edu.

School of Computing and Information

The School of Computing and Information will host a 2022 Spring Graduate Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, April 30, with the ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the University Club. Reception to follow.

The School of Computing and Information will also hold a 2022 Spring Undergraduate Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, May 1, with the ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Reception to follow.

School of Dental Medicine

The School of Dental Medicine will host their Annual Diploma Ceremony on Saturday, May 21, beginning at 1:00 PM. More information and how to RSVP are to be announced. Any questions may be directed to aam111@pitt.edu.

School of Education

The School of Education will host a ceremony on Thursday, April 28 beginning at 6:00 PM at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse. More information and how to register can be found here.

School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences will hold separate ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate candidates on Saturday, April 30, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. The Graduate Ceremony will take place from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m. The Undergraduate Ceremony will take place from 1:30 p.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m.  More details can be found here.

Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business

The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business will celebrate graduates from the fall and spring terms on Friday, April 29, for the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022. The ceremony will take place at David L. Lawrence Convention Center from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM with a reception to follow from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Find additional information and how to RSVP.

School of Law

The School of Law will host a commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 11:00 AM. More information and how to RSVP can be found on here. Any questions may be directed to alinsenmeyer@pitt.edu.

School of Medicine

The School of Medicine will celebrate graduates from the 2021 summer and fall terms and the 2022 spring term at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Diploma Day Ceremony on Monday, May 23, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Carnegie Music Hall. School of Nursing

The School of Nursing will host a commencement ceremony for both undergraduate and graduate candidates from the classes of 2020 and 2022 on Friday, April 29, beginning at 3:00 PM at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Graduates are limited to ten (10) guests per person. 

School of Pharmacy

The School of Pharmacy will celebrate graduates from the fall and spring terms in the Spring of 2022. At the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy 2022 Graduation and Hooding Ceremony on Friday, April 29. Website and RSVP information to be announced. School of Social Work

The School of Social Work will host an Afternoon of Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 5:00 PM at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall.

Swanson School of Engineering

The Swanson School of Engineering will host 6 departmental ceremonies the weekend of April 29-May 1. The Order of the Engineer will also be held that weekend and will not conflict with any of the departmental ceremonies or Commencement. A graduate Commencement for all PhD and MS grads from all disciplines will also be held that weekend and will not conflict with any other ceremony.

  • Graduate Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 29, beginning at 1 p.m.followed by reception at Bellefield Hall. Graduates are allowed three (3) guests per graduate with a wait list available through RSVP link. Reservations required, link shared with invitees via email on February 25.   • Order of the Engineer Induction will be held on Saturday, April 30, from 10:00AM-11:30AM at  Bellefield Hall Auditorium (this is an approximate ending time. Event will not overlap with other departmental ceremonies). Graduates are allowed two (2) guests per graduate.   • Bioengineering will host a Senior Recognition event on Saturday, April 30 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Wyndham University Center Ballrooom. As of 2/25/22 this proposed date, time and venue are subject to change. Formal invitations will be sent electronically when event is confirmed. Graduates will be allowed 3 guests.   • Chemical and Petroleum Engineering will host a Senior Recognition event on Saturday, April 30 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the William Pitt Union, Assembly Room. As of 2/17/22 this proposed date, time and venue are subject to change. Formal invitations will be sent electronically when event is confirmed. Graduates will be allowed 2 guests.   • Civil and Environmental Engineering will host a department  Recognition event on Saturday, April 30 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at the William Pitt Union, Ballroom Room. As of 2/17/22 this proposed date, time and venue are subject to change. Formal invitations will be sent electronically when event is confirmed. Graduates will be allowed 4 guests.   • Electrical and Computer Engineering will host a Senior Recognition event on Friday April 29 from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm at The Circut Center and Ballroom (5 Hot Metal Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203). Beverages, light hors d’oeuvres and dessert will be served. Business Casual, no cap and gown required.   • Industrial Engineering will host a Graduation Recognition event for undergraduates and graduates on Sunday, May 1 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the University Club, Ballroom B. RSVP's are required and should be submitted by April 4th. Questions can be directed to ugradie@pitt.edu
  • Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science will host a Senior Recognition ceremony on Saturday, April 30 at Soldier and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum beginning at 7:30 pm with a reception immediately following.  Doors will open at 6:45 pm.
