Tickets

The University-wide Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony requires guest tickets.

The University of Pittsburgh utilizes Ticketmaster for ceremony tickets. Entrance is a completely digital process and requires a smart device. If your guests are entering together, all tickets may be on one device.

Guest Tickets Overview

  • Each successfully registered candidate will receive four (4) electronic tickets for guests via Ticketmaster. Tickets are free of charge.
  • Graduates have the opportunity during ceremony registration to request up to three (3) additional tickets if they become available. There is no guarantee that additional tickets will be available, and requesting tickets does not guarantee the graduate will receive any additional tickets.
  • Please request only the number of tickets you plan to use.
  • Graduating students do not need a ticket—they will use their printed Name Announcement Card to enter.
  • Guests 2 years old and under do not require a ticket and are considered lap guests.

Receiving Tickets

  • Candidates must successfully register for the university-wide commencement ceremony to receive tickets.
  • Registration is through a digital invitation from the Office of Special Events (commencement@pitt.edu) and must be completed before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24.

Ticket Distribution Timeline

  • The University of Pittsburgh uses Ticketmaster for ticket distribution.
  • Tickets will be released on a rolling basis during the week of December 7.
  • Instructions on how to claim the four (4) guest tickets will be sent to all successfully registered graduates the week of December 7.
  • If additional tickets are approved, they will be sent together with the initial four tickets.
  • All tickets must be claimed by December 11.
  • Any tickets NOT claimed by December 11 will be returned to the Office of Special Events.
  • The Office of Special Events is available for support through December 10 at noon.
  • If you registered to attend the University‑wide Commencement Ceremony and have now chosen NOT TO ATTEND, please email the Office of Special Events immediately.

How to Claim Tickets

  • Tickets will be made available from Ticketmaster the week of December 7.
  • Graduates will receive an email to their Pitt account—including instructions, a private link, and a one‑time‑use code—during the week of December 7.
  • All tickets must be claimed in one transaction; once the code is used, it becomes invalid and portal access is closed.
  • After entering the code, graduates should confirm the correct number of tickets before completing checkout.

Additional Ticket Availability

  • All tickets must be claimed by December 11. Any tickets NOT claimed by December 11 will be returned to the Office of Special Events.
  • There is no guarantee that additional tickets will become available. If extra tickets are available, announcements will be shared on @pittcommencement and the Commencement website. We encourage you to follow and check periodically.

Troubleshooting Tips for the Ticket Portal

If you experience issues accessing the portal, try the following:

  • Log into Ticketmaster first, then click the link in your invitation.
  • If needed, create a Ticketmaster account before using the link.
  • Tickets are still available, even if Ticketmaster shows a pop-up saying otherwise.
    • Try a different device and use 5G instead of Wi‑Fi.

If you are still experiencing an issue, follow the prompts below:

  • Log out of your Ticketmaster account.
  • Clear cookies or use a private/incognito browser.
  • If connected to campus Wi‑Fi, switch to a mobile device using LTE.
  • Log back in to Ticketmaster.
  • If you see a message that tickets are “sold out,” it means the system is overloaded—try again later; tickets never actually sell out.

If issues continue, take a screenshot and email commencement@pitt.edu for assistance. The Office of Special Events is available for support through December 10 at noon.
