Spring Commencement Day

Sunday, April 28, 2024  |  1 p.m.  |  Petersen Events Center


  • All candidates will have their name announced and cross the stage.
     
  • Tickets are required for all guests from infant to adult. Each registered graduate will receive 4 tickets. A unique access code, instructions on how to claim tickets, and instructions on how to send tickets to family and friends will be sent to each registered graduate's Pitt email address the week of April 15.
     
  • Regalia is required to attend.
     
  • Please designate a meeting spot OUTSIDE of the Petersen Events Center to meet your party at the conclusion of the ceremony.
     
  • Concession stands at the Petersen Events Center are open to all guests.
     
  • Construction Impacts: 

    Oakland is ever-evolving! Please refer to the Pitt Mobility website for up-to-the-day information regarding construction, road closures, etc.

Undergraduates

  • Graduates MUST arrive at the Petersen Events Center in full academic regalia. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and graduates MUST be in their seats by 12:15 p.m. Any graduate not in their seat by 12:15 p.m. may be held in the lobby until after the academic procession at the beginning of the ceremony, so please plan accordingly. The Petersen Events Center CLEAR BAG POLICY will be in effect.
     
  • When you arrive, ushers will be on hand to direct you to your designated seat within your school on the Petersen Events Center Floor. If you want to sit with your friends within your school, please make plans to meet them outside the Petersen Events Center and enter the building as a group. Holding seats or waiting inside for friends to arrive is not allowed.
     

  • Each graduate will have the opportunity to cross the stage and have their name announced. Graduates MUST print and bring their issued Name Card with them. This name announcement card is what will allow the graduate into the building in lieu of a ticket.

  • Please send your tickets to your guests at least 24 hours prior to the ceremony.  Instructions on how to send can be found here.  Reminder: ALL guests, including infants, must have a ticket to enter.

Family & Friends

  • Doors will open to guests at 10:30 am for guests to enter the Petersen Events Center. IMPORTANT NOTE: the CLEAR BAG policy set forth by the Petersen Events Center will be in effect.
     
  • ALL GUESTS will enter the Petersen Events Center through either CONCOURSE A or the Thomas E. Richards Family Lobby (LOBBY LEVEL). Both entrances are handicap accessible.
     
  • Information about accessible drop-off locations, seating and more can be found here.   
     
  • Please have your tickets on your smart device prior to arriving at the Petersen Events Center.  ALL guests, including infants, must have a ticket to enter.   
     
  • The University of Pittsburgh utilizes Ticketmaster for distribution on ceremony tickets. Entrance to the Petersen Events Center is a completely digital process and requires a smart device. If your guests are entering together, all tickets may be on one device.  Review these instructions for how to obtain and save tickets from your graduates.  
     
  • All University owned parking lots and garages are open and free on Sunday, April 28 beginning at 8 am. Map >>   
     
  • Shuttle service maps, times and drop-off/pick-up locations can be found here.  
     
  • The University of Pittsburgh has partnered with GradImages to capture an image of each student during the ceremony. Guests are not permitted to approach the stage.
  • Family and friends who are on campus may also watch the livestream ceremony in the Fitzgerald Field House and William Pitt Union Assembly Room. Parking and Shuttle service is available in those areas and maps of locations/routes can be found here.  
    • The Fitzgerald Fieldhouse will have a livestream of the ceremony and open concession stands for guests. Tickets are not required for the Fieldhouse.
    • The Assembly Room in the William Pitt Union will have a livestream of the ceremony. Tickets are not required for the William Pitt Union.

Livestream

  • The ceremony will be livestreamed on this website as well as on Pitt's Official YouTube Channel.  The LIVESTREAM button will appear on the main page of the Commencement website the week of April 22. For graduates and their families who will be watching the ceremony online, open captioning will be automatically displayed during the broadcast.
